#125 Stair seats
Places need a definite shape and a degree of enclosure, with people looking into them, not out of them. And they can also help embellsih entrances. Where there is action in a place, the spots which are most inviting, are those high enough to give people advantage point, and low enough to put them in action. In any public place where people loiter, add a few steps at the edge where stairs come down or where there is a change of level. Make these raised and immediately accessible from below, so that people may congregate and sit to watch the goings-on. And connect steps directly to surrounding buildings.
Why did I choose this pattern?
I chose this pattern initially because I was originally planning on making multiple levels and a lot of different high point and have these all be accesable by stairs but also for all of these to be sat on. I changed my ideas but I still wanted to make use of stairs and seating an multifunctionality.
Field research

I had never seen these types of stairs before so I thought this was quite interesting. optimizing the use of space. But also creating a place where people are interested in what is going on. drawing them in.
This idea is not new but I still practical and nice to look at.

This version calls for a little more adventure, perhaps to skate on or a fun challenge for a child.

Near beurs Rotterdam there is a square that has these seatings that double ass a border for the greenery.

Reflection

"And they can also help embellish entrances." stair seats. A multi functional object that can lead the way but also be a seat. I made use of this in the picture on the left. The most important thing was focused on having a flowing design. Not having it be stopped by benches. In our first class with our guest speaker he talked about making sure a square never looks empty or deserted. And that empty benches make these look empty. When making multi functional seating it can look like just a border between the tree and the path. Making it look less deserted. Because it was not only meant to sit on. I was happy to use this pattern and it had a great flow with especially the paths.
