Paths for people to walk on, how would one walk across schouwburgplein and what paths would take them where they need to go fast.

Turning the path into water makes for a whole different look. Using water to separate spaces.

Paths
These paths could also double as a boundry between places on the square, creating a separation without making a lot of effort. Thinking about placements of water so people don't make short cuts.

Water and concrete
Looking at pattern #114 hierarchy of open space.
•Back protected and looking at a largerspace
•Make a maller space,that looks into the space.(naturalback)
•Have seating oriented to open space

Based on these points I tried to make a design.

Terrace, green, water and concrete

When doing research I discovered that the 15 best squares of the world almost all have terraces. This seems to be a big key to succes when having a square. Knowing there are a lot of catering industry surrounding schouwburgplein I wanted to find a way to corporate this onto the square but not have it be the only element.
In this design I made a huge terrace on one side being a statement on its own. The other side a grass field for lying down and relaxing.Divided by a concrete stage with stairs.

Here I created a terrace on one side, with the terrace moving into grass with a few parasoles for sitting on the grass in the summer proving shade and drinks. On the other side I have a concrete elevation that can be used for whatever people want. For example a stage. Having stairs doubling as seating. Being divided by a water stream, creating two separate enviroments.
